Movie Review - Instant Family

This was a family pick as my wife is not into movies and I am not into seeing comedies at the theater. I would give Instant Family a 5 out of 10. Bring your tissues. Honestly, if you are not misty eyed in this one it could be time for counseling.

While I thought the story was worthy of a feature film, this should not have been marketed as a comedy. You may find a laugh or two but the seriousness of the content weighs it down dramatically. The performances are good, pacing is on point, cinematically it is shot like a rom-com - nothing special, no score or FX to speak of, and the there were a few scenes that were unrealistic. They were able to hammer home that our adoption system is deeply flawed while highlighting its possible successes, mixing in some humor, and not being partisan in the process. Not an easy task. You will laugh, but dont expect to lose your breath or spill your popcorn.

See it. Donate to its namesake charity InstantFamily.org
